Emilie Meldem at Hyeres 2011

Swiss designer Emilie Meldem was awarded the Special Jury Prize, second only to French designer Lea Peckre winner of the Grand Jury Prize l'Oreal Professional of the 26th edition of the Festival d'Hyeres.

Emilie Meldem, former apprentice at Viktor & Rolf, takes her inspiration from her native Switzerland. The perception of an isolated country, caught between modernity and tradition, restriction and freedom, fragility and strength. This duality results in a form of minimal eccentricity, which is at the same time decorative and radical.

Maryam Kordbacheh: " The Sexuality of Flowers "

The young Dutch designer Maryam Kordbacheh, a graduate Master from Fashion Institute, Arnhem, was also selected along with Lea Peckre and eight others to participate at the 2011 Festival of Hyeres.

Maryam Kordbacheh's collection is inspired by the organic formation of nature which evokes irrevocably sensual shapes. The craftsmanship plays an important role. The handcrafted garments, originally molded from a single length of fabric, appear extremely refined and delicate. The colors are handmade with organic pigments or natural dyes like tea, coffee and herbs.

"The allure of a design resides in its purity. I mold and discover my own patterns. Experimentation, problem solving and searching for a personal way to realize my designs are most important to me. My collection, rather than being clothes, is a kind of intimate sculptures".

Lea Peckre: " Cemeteries are fields of flowers "

Although French designer Lea Peckre drew her inspiration in part from cemeteries, it was not a fascination of the macabre, but rather the structured shapes of the mausoleums, and the colors and shapes of the tombstones.
A former apprentice at various fashion houses such as Rochas, Givenchy, Maison Martin Margiela, Chloe and Jean Paul Gaultier, Lea Peckre has won several fashion awards, including La Cambre Jury Prize 2010.
The young designer is also among the ten fashion designers selected to participate at the 2011 Festival of Hyeres.

The construction of the garment will be partly structured, sometimes quite massive, a reminder of the graves and adorned monuments. In opposition, sets of transparency, light fabrics, blur, such as muslins, silk jersey, lace, a balance with the environment of the cemetery, the landscape....
